Suprafilt Air Main Supporting Structures Design & Analysis

Recently we concluded our most recent collaboration with Suprafilt Limited. Suprafilt engaged the services of Barair to assist them with air main supporting structures design and analysis.

The project at Mogden Waste Water Plant was to install an anaerobic digestion aeration system, to boost the capacity of the site significantly.

Retrofit new equipment to old infrastructure

The project involved retrofitting equipment to the existing plant. Designing around and retrofitting new equipment to old infrastructure is always a challenge. We were given limited steelwork footing positions, and long unsupported spans were required to satisfy client requirements, such as pedestrian access.

Installation was an important consideration

Mechanical design for installation was also significant as all parts would have to be craned into position. Additionally, consideration had to be given to the fact that the wastewater tanks would be full and in operation during installation, an extremely hazardous environment.

It was therefore imperative that the design was simple to transport to the site, easily installed and adjusted to suit any site anomalies. Whilst asking the question; can we make design changes which will make their lives easier and most important, safer?

Finite Element Analysis

Additionally, Barair ensured the entire structure had sufficient strength by completing a detailed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) report.

We have now received some feedback, which reports that the installation is near completion and the installation and initial commissioning is a success.

We are always delighted to get the “call to arms” from Suprafilt. We have worked together for over eight years, and we have a fabulous relationship with them.

It’s always a pleasure to work with such an upbeat, highly skilled and experienced company.

We look forward to the next project with them.
