Project detail

Barair recently completed the manufacture and delivery of two in-line pipeline components for a petrochemical sampling system destined for the USA. The project comprised two welded mild steel assemblies: an inline nozzle and an inline quill, designed to be installed into a process pipeline to support fast-loop mixing and sampling.

Although the assemblies are mechanically simple in appearance, the requirement was not simply fabrication. The key requirement was demonstrable quality assurance. The assemblies needed to be fully machined, welded by certified personnel, inspected and tested to defined acceptance criteria, and supplied with traceable documentation suitable for receiving inspection and integration into a wider system in the USA.

A central part of this project was the welding and inspection regime. Welding was completed by a qualified welder in line with the specified requirements, followed by weld inspection and Non-Destructive Testing. The inspection intent included comprehensive visual inspection of welds, internal inspection where practicable, and electromagnetic particle inspection of selected welds. This approach helps ensure that the assemblies are not only functional but defensible from a quality and compliance standpoint when shipped internationally.

Each assembly then underwent hydrostatic proof testing in accordance with the specified test requirement. In addition to confirming integrity, this provides a documented objective test result that can be referenced throughout the supply chain, from dispatch through to installation and commissioning.

Traceability was treated as a deliverable in its own right. Each assembly was identified so that certification can be cleanly mapped to the physical item, allowing a receiving team in the USA to verify compliance without ambiguity.

For shipment, both assemblies were protected with a red oxide primer to reduce corrosion risk during transit and handling. They were then packed into bespoke timber shipping cases designed to restrain the assemblies and protect critical machined and sealing faces. The certification documentation was retained with each item in the case to prevent separation from the hardware.

The result was a pair of export-ready inline sampling components, delivered as complete, verified assemblies with full supporting documentation and robust physical packing suitable for international shipment and onward integration into the customer’s overall petrochemical sampling system.
