Mechanical Engineering Services

Barair Systems Limited provides Chartered mechanical engineering support for organisations that need design assurance, FEA verification, and practical problem solving. We support everything from fabricated frames and skids through to bespoke machinery, plant modifications, and technical reporting.

Design Assurance & Independent Design Checks

Independent design reviews with clear assumptions, load cases, findings and actions to support sign-off.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Verification

FEA substantiation for structures and assemblies with documented boundary conditions and decision-grade reporting

Bespoke Machine Design

Concept to detailed design for bespoke machines, tooling and mechanisms, including design-for-manufacture support.

Process & Plant Modifications

Retrofit-focused mechanical design for plant changes, access constraints, installation planning and risk reduction.

Production Line Improvement & Manufacturing Support

Hands-on engineering support to improve throughput, reliability and maintainability in production environments.

Failure Investigation & Root Cause Analysis

Evidence-led failure investigation, technical assessment, and practical recommendations to prevent recurrence.

Expert / Professional Witness Engineering

Independent technical reporting and expert/professional witness support, including CPR Part 35 where instructed.

How we work

Barair is typically engaged when you need confidence in a design decision, not just “some calcs”. The aim is to give you a clear engineering position you can act on, whether that’s sign-off for manufacture, a modification plan for site, or a robust explanation of why something failed.

A typical engagement runs like this:

  • Brief + inputs – drawings (PDF/STEP), photos, operating duty (loads/pressures/temperatures), constraints, and what “success” looks like.

  • Assumptions + load cases – we state boundary conditions, credible worst-case cases, and acceptance criteria (e.g., stiffness, stress, fatigue, deflection, vibration, safety factors).

  • Engineering work – calculations, FEA verification where appropriate, design iteration, and buildability review (DFM/DFA).

  • Review + decisions – a short review call to walk through the outcome and agree actions.

  • Deliverables issued – a decision-grade pack you can file, share, and use for approval.

This approach suits SMEs and manufacturers who want experienced Chartered mechanical engineering input without the overhead of hiring.

Typical deliverables

  • Design review report with clear assumptions and actions

  • Calculation pack and/or FEA verification summary (where appropriate)

  • Manufacturing-ready drawings and specification notes

  • Retrofit design and staged installation plan (when modifying plant)

  • Evidence pack suitable for sign-off (customer/insurer/internal)

  • Close-out summary and change-control notes (“as modified” where needed)

Inputs we typically need

  • CAD model (STEP/Parasolid) and/or drawings (PDF)

  • Photos/video of the equipment and interfaces

  • Operating duty: loads, pressures, temperatures, duty cycle

  • Materials and manufacturing method (fabrication/machining/assembly)

  • Constraints: envelope, access, shutdown windows, safety requirements

  • Any customer/insurer standards or documentation expectations

  • Failure evidence where relevant (fractures, wear, distortion, logs)
